Darlington 17 - 29 April 2000
Review taken from a local paper.
Tim Driesen is following in the footsteps of some illustrious names by taking on the role of Joseph in the smash-hit musical. Philip Schofield, Jason Donavan, Darren Day and Donny Osmond all received critical acclaim when they played Joseph in the West End production of this now-familiar and immensely popular biblical story. But if Tim was feeling intimidated about taking on such a role, he certainly showed no signs of it when he took to the stage at the start of a two-week run of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Darlington Civic Theatre.
With boyish good looks and a great voice, he looks like he has been playing
the character for years and it won't be long before this Belgian-born actor
moves on to even bigger and better things. Of course, Joseph is not a one-man
show and the rest of the cast, which includes pupils from Darlington's Carmel RC Technology College choir, combine to make this a must-see production, the performance of Vivienne Carlyle, who plays the narrator, was particularly impressive.
In some respects, this role is even more demanding than that of Joseph because the narrator is in almost every scene. Vivienne has a fantastic voice, which is best displayed in the song Pharoah's Story, and its not surprising that her CV includes performing backing vocals for the likes of Barry Manilow and Michael Bolton.
