David studied at the Birmingham School of Music, Birmingham University and Trinity College, London.
He has conducted several seasons as Chorus Master and latterly Guest Conductor with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company at the Royal Festival Hall, Sadler's Wells and on tour, the inauqural productions with Carl Rosa Opera and is Music Director of the Opera Company at the buxton International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival.
He has also conducted for London Concert Orchestra at the Barbican and Birmingham Symphony Hall, Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, the English National Opera Tribute to Donal Adams, Northern Chamber Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra in a recording of Sullivan One a Excerpts(Sullivan and CO.) and numerous performances with the National Concert Orchestra, notably 'Gala Night at the Proms', 'Together Again, 'The Grand Duke Centenary Celebrations at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool.
David was the first Musical Director of the Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich and his fifteen productions included ' A Little Night Music' and incidental music for 'The Servant of Two Masters'. He wrote the underscore for 'Abracadaver' at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth and has been Musical Director for productions at Birmingham Rep, Liverpool Playhouse, Sheffield Crucible, Nottingham Playhouse and Sadler's Wells.
SInce 1982, David has worked a great deal with Bill Kenwright in the West End (including 'Wonderful Town', 'The Wind In The Willows' and 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Deamcoat', on national tours (includeing 'Oliver!'), the Australian premiere of 'Joseph in Melbourne and Sydney and 'DOn't go Breaking My Heart' for Bill Kenwright Films.
He still frequently appears in concert with former D'Oyly Carte colleagues but especially with Patric a Leonard in 'Here's yet another How-de-do!'. |
