BRADFORD ALHAMBRA  -  DECEMBER 7TH 2002
We arrived at the Bradford Alhambra at 7.15 for the 8.00 performance. Already the theatre was buzzing with excitement. Programmes were being sold and there was a steady stream of people viewing the Joseph merchandise. We started off the evening well by buying a copy of the CD of the show, noticing that the picture of the greatest Joseph of them all - Richard Swerrun - had now disappeared from the cover, quite sad considering he is the performer who actually sings on the CD.
For us this show was even more special than usual - it being probably the last in the "old form" before Bill Kenwright introduces his sweeping changes.
The theatre was full and the audience was great throughout the performance - singing, clapping, shouting, whistling and generally expressing their appreciation any way they could.
The whole cast were fantastic - it's not really fair to pick people out but - Vivienne Carlyle was (as always) a wonderful narrator, with her lovely smile and a her beautiful full ranged voice - Trevor Jary raised the biggest cheer with his hip swinging Elvis/Pharaoh rendition. At times the applause went on and on and the cast had to pause before they were able to carry on.
Each of the brothers and each of the girls gave their all and certainly looked to enjoy it. John Melvin's fire eating scene seemed more spectacular than usual.
The end of the show was truly amazing - the audience couldn't wait to get to their feet and join in and, as the flyer says, the applause went on and on.
Good luck to everyone in the show whether they go on to the new production or not. They certainly deserve it!!!
